You became the storm to survive the chaos.
You were strong enough—more than strong enough.
But your body? It’s still bracing for impact.
And that’s exactly why you’re here.
Let’s get into it.
We don’t like to admit this, but life will always involve stress. If we let it build up, it becomes overwhelming and we get to a point where we’re just “pushing through.” Keep that up long enough, and your system defaults to survival mode.
Most of us have experienced some form of chronic stress, systemic adversity, or trauma. Some of us carry adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), or the memory of accidents and disasters. But trauma also looks like navigating structural oppression: police violence, an ICE raid, food insecurity, job loss, systemic racism, or growing up in poverty.
These experiences are not just political or historical events—they are deeply, physically held in your tissue.
Trauma is what happens to your nervous system after you’ve felt unsafe, scared, and powerless to protect yourself. If that sense of danger never fully resolves, your nervous system changes. Some part of you stays alert. Stays afraid. Stays braced for the next storm.
You find yourself cycling between two exhausting extremes—bouncing from the high-energy anxiety of hyper-vigilance straight into the heavy, numb collapse of a hypo-response.
Your nervous system isn’t broken. It’s just waiting for the news that you are safe.
Moving Beyond “Fixing” Your Nervous System
Many of us have tried to think our way out of this. We do the talk therapy. We track our triggers. We download the apps and try our hardest to “regulate” our nervous system when the anxiety hits.
But there is a profound difference between regulating a stressed body and embodied safety.
Nervous system regulation is what we do when we are already trapped in a stress response. It is the tool you use to force your heart rate down or patch over a panic attack so you can keep functioning. It is exhausting work because you are constantly managing a fire.
Somatic safety is different. Safety is not a tool you do; it is a state of being that your body remembers. When your body integrates true safety, you stop cycling. Your jaw unlocks without you telling it to. Your shoulders drop.
True recovery begins here. It starts by finding the loose thread—the first moment of body awareness—and gently unraveling it, one realization at a time. Not just what you think about your experiences, but what you physically feel in them.
You’re not behind. You’re becoming. And you don’t have to do it alone.
What to Expect inside The Somatic Archive
Our bodies didn’t learn to brace overnight, and we won’t force them to unbrace by pushing through. We go at the speed of safety.
Free Subscribers receive The Bi-Weekly Grounding newsletter every two weeks. These letters are educational and experiential by nature, offering:
Deep Dives: Essays exploring the intersection of trauma, the female nervous system, and somatic psychology through an intersectional lens.
Somatic Foundations: Gentle, accessible somatic prompts designed to help you pour a safe foundation in your body first, expanding your nervous system’s capacity so you are sturdy enough to handle deep trauma therapy later.
Micro-Practices: Actionable, real-time tools to help your body shift out of a stress response or functional freeze during a busy week.
Paid Subscribers unlock our intentional, alternating bi-weekly loop. On the weeks when the newsletter takes a break, we gather to practice integration together. Upgrading grants you access to:
